PYONGYANG - The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said Friday that the country and the US have agreed to resume the excavation of remains of US soldiers in 2012.

The DPRK side re-clarified its humanitarian stand during talks between the two country's militaries on the issue last month in Bangkok, Thailand, a spokesman for the Panmunjom Mission of the Korean People's Army (KPA) told the official KCNA news agency.

In the talks, the US side admitted that it unilaterally suspended the excavation of the GIs'remains, a project that had been successfully underway for the past decade, to serve its political purposes and assured that it would never abuse the project again, the KCNA said in the report.

The two sides also had broad discussion on issues of mutual concern including bilateral humanitarian issues, it added.
