BEIJING - A senior Chinese official on Friday stressed that local governments should examine and stop collecting unauthorized fees to reduce the burden on consumers and business operators.

State Councilor Ma Kai said at a national teleconference that local governments at all levels should make more efforts to respond to people's complaints on unauthorized fee collections this year.

The official stressed bringing a halt to six kinds of unauthorized fee collections.

First, ban large-scale retailers, such as supermarkets, from collecting unauthorized fees from suppliers.

Second, ban unauthorized fees in the transport and logistics systems, especially at turnpike tollbooths.

Third, stop commercial banks from collecting any unauthorized fees.

Fourth, ban telecommunications companies from making price alliances or monopolies, and prevent them from sending short junk messages to users and forcibly collecting fees through software applications on user's terminals.

Fifth, ban any school or individual from collecting fees by organizing exam training courses for students.

Sixth, ban local governments from embezzling farmers' compensation funds for land acquisition.
