BEIJING - Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will make an official visit to China from Feb 7 to 11 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

"Currently, the Chinese-Canadian relationship maintains a good momentum of development," said spokesman Liu Weimin, adding that the two nations have been making continuous progress in their broad-spectrum cooperation in economy and trade, energy and resources, science, education, public health, law enforcement and other areas.

China and Canada have also been in close communication and coordination in regional and international affairs, he added.

As important nations in the Asia-Pacific region, China and Canada share extensive common interests and prospects for cooperation to advance their own development and maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world, said the spokesman.

"The Chinese side attaches great importance to Prime Minister Harper's China visit," Liu said, adding that China is ready to make joint efforts with the Canadian side, during the visit, to enhance their political mutual trust and expand practical cooperation so as to further promote strategic partnership between the two countries in a sustainable and in-depth way.
