Two Chinese container trucks recently crossed into Nepal via Gyirong Port in the Xizang autonomous region, marking the first time Chinese-registered container vehicles have been used for cross-border road transport between the two countries, according to the Lhasa Customs.

The trucks cleared customs under the supervision of Gyirong Customs, part of Lhasa Customs. They were carrying medical supplies, household products, mobile phones, computers, and other items in strong demand in the Nepalese market, Xizang News reported.

The move represents a new step in improving the efficiency of China–Nepal trade, which has traditionally relied on Nepalese container trucks, according to the authorities. Under the previous model, goods often had to be transferred or reloaded at the border, a longer process with a higher risk of cargo damage.

To facilitate the new transport arrangement, Gyirong Customs worked with local government departments and businesses to address logistical and regulatory challenges. Authorities said they carried out targeted surveys with companies and offered policy guidance to support the shift.

Gyirong Customs monitors logistics vehicles in real time to ensure seamless supervision across the transportation chain.

"We have prioritized inter-office communication and coordination to resolve complexities in enterprise transportation, providing tailored clearance solutions," said Sun Zhuo, director of Gyirong Customs.
