It is said that in ancient times, people set off fireworks and beat drums at the arrival of the new year to drive away evil spirits and ensure a peaceful celebration.

Today, drumbeats remain an essential part of festivals and public events, adding energy and atmosphere. On Sunday, students beat drums to welcome guests attending the Second Spring Festival Culture Forum at Beijing Normal University, as the Year of the Horse in 2026 approaches in just two months.

Dozens of scholars, representatives from cultural institutions, and enthusiasts of traditional culture gathered at the university to exchange views on the sustainability of the Spring Festival and intangible cultural heritage in a rapidly changing world.
