Born in Shanghai and having lived in Beijing for years, Feng Yuan's paintings are marked by gentleness in his brushwork and solemnity in presentation, showcasing the cultural nourishment he has received in southern and northern China.
Mirrors of Epochs, his ongoing exhibition in the National Centre for the Performing Arts gallery in Beijing, runs until Monday and features various themes, including the figure paintings that earned him high recognition in art circles. His history-themed paintings display a literary accumulation over time, and his depictions of people's lives in Beijing reflect his humanistic concerns and emotional attachment to the capital city.
