The United States administration's obsession with tariffs has placed a heavy burden on US consumers and industries, and it would never be a winner in the tariff war. During the first four months since taking office, the US administration's broad, non-discriminatory tariffs have triggered disruptions and eroded investor confidence in the US market and the financial sector, as reflected in the fluctuations in the US economy.

In a recent interview with China Daily, Asit K. Biswas, an academician and distinguished visiting professor at the University of Glasgow, emphasized the urgent need to abandon excessive tariffs, calling for the non-politicization of trade. Biswas also pointed out that the inconsistency of US policies is detrimental to its medium-to-long-term development and may lead other countries to see China as a more reliable and stable partner.
