HANOI - Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung was relieved from duty on Wednesday afternoon at the ongoing 11th session of the 13th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam in capital Hanoi.

The move was made with 418 "yes" votes out of 486 valid ballots cast by NA deputies.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, newly-elected Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang delivered a proposal to the NA to relieve Dung from the prime minister's duty.

According to the proposal, "While assuming the post of Vietnamese Prime Minister, Dung always fulfilled the tasks assigned."

Also on Wednesday afternoon, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang delivered a proposal to the NA on nomination for the post of Vietnamese Prime Minister.

Member of the 12th Central committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPVCC) and 12th CPVCC's Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is the sole nominee to the post.

The voting to elect new prime minister will be conducted on Thursday.

In late January, Dung was not elected to be among 200 members of the new CPVCC.

At the second session of the 12th CPVCC in early March, Vietnamese party chief Nguyen Phu Trong said the central committee reached consensus that it is needed to soon replace and re-arrange key leadership positions in order to promptly implement the resolution of the 12th national party congress.
