BERLIN - In the refugee crisis, Germany wants to continue controls on its external borders until early November, reported German media Spiegel Online on Monday night.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere informed the European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitres Avramopoulos, in a letter that the controls at the German frontiers would be extended by another 20 days until Nov 1, according to the report.

Because of the "still uncontrollably immense and almost uninterrupted influx of third-country citizens" and the "need to maintain the security and order," it is necessary to continue this action, as it was said in the letter.

The sea of the Aegean is still the main route of refugees, Spiegel Online reported, citing an internal report of the German Police.

More than 200,000 asylum seekers came to Germany in September.

In order to limit the refugees influx, Germany reinstated temporarily border control at internal borders, de Maiziere announced earlier September.

According to German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, up to a million refugees may arrive in Germany in 2015, a figure bigger than the earlier official estimates of 800,000 asylum applications.
