Malaysia says two nationals killed in Bangkok blast

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian government said Tuesday that two of its citizens were killed in what Prime Minister Najib Razak called a "heinous act" in Bangkok, when a powerful blast rocked the downtown district of the Thai capital.

Malaysia's Foreign Ministry confirmed that two Malaysians were killed, while two others were injured.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to convey our deepest condolences and sympathy to the victims and their families involved in the incident," it said in a statement.

Prime Minister Najib said his country "condemns the heinous act on innocent civilians in Bangkok which claimed lives of two Malaysians and others,"

"My thoughts and prayers are with their families," he said via twitter.

Thai authorities said more than 20 people were killed in the blast that rocked Erawan Shrine at Ratchaprasong intersection, a popular tourist destination in downtown Bangkok, at about 7 pm local time. A t otal of 125 people were injured in the blast.
