TOKYO - Shinzo Abe, the president of main Japanese opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Friday vowed to win the upcoming general election ahead the Diet dissolution, reported by the local media.

Abe called the next election a "historic battle" with strong confidences of leading the LDP return to power after the lost to Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) in 2009.

According to the local media, Abe said in a meeting with his party executives that the LDP must capture victory, "it's our mission to the public".

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda decided to officially dissolve the House of Representatives at the plenary session Friday afternoon.

The general election is scheduled on Dec 16, and the election campaigning would commence on Dec 4.
