BANGKOK - The latest number of flood fatalities in Thailand reached 54 while some 3.9 million has been affected, the Interior Ministry's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Tuesday. ?

The department director Viboon Sa-nguanpong said some 1.13 million households or about 3.87 million people in 36 provinces across the country had been suffering flash floods and mudslides caused by Nock-Ten tropical storm as well as monsoon.

The number has been accumulated since July 25 when Nock-Ten made landfall in Thailand.

Until now the waters have not yet receded in 11 provinces of central Sukhothai, Pichit, Pitsanulok, Nakhon-Sawan, Ayudhaya, Ang-Thong, Chainat and northeastern Udon-Thani and southern Phang-nga, Ranong and Suratthani.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department on Tuesday morning issued a warning for people in the north and northeast to brace for heavy rain and possible flash floods triggered by southwest monsoon over the next few days.

As for the relief measure, the cabinet meeting on Tuesday agreed to pay farmers affected by flooding compensation of 2,222 baht per rai ($74 per 0.016 sq km) of damaged crops.
