AMMAN - The Jordanian government led by Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit submitted its resignation on Saturday, according to an official source.

Bakhit is expected to make his first government reshuffle Saturday, which is likely to include five to seven ministerial portfolios, local media said.

Early February, King Abdullah II of Jordan named Marouf Bakhit as the new prime minister, succeeding former prime minister Samir Rifai.

Bakhit, born on 1947, joined the Jordanian Armed Forces in 1964. In 1999, he retired from the army as a major general. He was also a former ambassador to Turkey and Israel, and was the head of the National Security and acting director of the king's office.

He served as a prime minister from 2005 till 2007.
