Eighty-one percent of respondents to the survey by Fuji Television Network said they did not trust government information on the crisis at the tsunami-hit Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.

The March 11 earthquake and tsunami damaged the plant's cooling systems, causing the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl.

Nearly 85 percent of respondents said the utility that operates the plant is dealing with the crisis poorly.

The poll was conducted May 28-29 and had 1,000 responses. No margin of error was given, but a poll of that size would normally have a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

The survey's results were released Monday.
