A pilot and a passenger were on board the plane when it crashed into the side of the UPS Freight building at about 1 pm local time while attempting to take off from the airport, the Roanoke Times quoted an airport news release as saying.

Both two on board survived but with life-threatening injuries and neither victim has been identified, said the report.

Witnesses reported seeing the single-engine, five-passenger plane, wobble in the wind as it crossed Peters Creek Road and headed north.

Sgt. Robert Carpentieri of the state police said no one on the ground was injured in the crash, and airport firefighters were on the scene a few minutes after the accident occurred.
