JERUSALEM - Israel supports international efforts, including U.N. Security Council sanctions, to restrain Iran's nuclear ambitions, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Thursday morning.

At a meeting with his senior cabinet ministers and intelligence officials on Israel's policy on Iran, Olmert said that the North Korea's latest nuclear experiment "highlights the need for urgent, determined, vigorous and united action" by the international community regarding Iran.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Defense Minister Amir Peretz, Vice Premier Shimon Peres and other senior officials including the heads of the intelligence agencies attended the meeting.

The meeting also discussed the possible actions Israel would take on this issue, which include disclosing details of the military cooperation between North Korea and Iran to media and decision-makers in the West.

Russia, which now has opposed the U.S. efforts to impose sanctions on Iran, was another topic of Thursday's meeting.

Olmert is expected to raise Iran's nuclear threat when he meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next week.
