PLA ammo as fertilizer

A technical unit of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has succeeded in transforming scrapped ammunition into fertilizer, reported PLA Daily on Monday.

Putting more than 80 kg of explosives into a closed container and stirring it formed fertilizer after a series of chemical reactions, according to reporters at the technical unit.

"The fertilizers we produced improved the growth rate of wheat by more than 10 percent, and the protein content of crops by 11.11 percent," said an officer of the troop.

How to dispose of explosives without explosions or polluting the environment has been long-standing problem for the PLA. The new technology, which resulted from three years of research, may provide the answer.
