In 1993, the only gravel access roads began to be used in Medog County. Nowadays, Medog County, as the last county without paved road will end the county's isolation with the outside world.

By the end of 2003, Medog County as a county in Nyingchi Prefecture locating in the southeast of Tibet Autonomous Region has 8 villages and 59 village committees with a total population of 9,759. This place as one of Tibet's sacred places is always called Pemako with the meaning of "A holy place with hidden lotus in full bloom". However, it is also called as "Xishuangbanna in Tibet", "Museum of natural vegetation" for its wonderful natural conditions.       Text by Palden Nyima
