Journey to the Silk Road - Thailand

A relic of an ancient temple in Ayutthaya, Thailand. Ayutthaya was a Siamese kingdom that existed from 1351 to 1767.

In the sixteenth century, it was described by foreign traders as one of the biggest and wealthiest cities in the East.

A number of temples and Buddha statues were built as a symbol of prosperity and peace.

Buddhism in Thailand is represented primarily by the presence of Buddhist monks, who serve as officiants on ceremonial occasions, as well as being responsible for preserving and conveying the teachings of the Buddha. [Photo by Hou Weiping / provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
