The mileage of Chongqing's railways totaled 2,231 kilometers in 2016, of which 356 kilometers are high-speed rail (HSR). The past five years have seen 778 kilometers of railways built, including the Chengdu-Chongqing HSR and Chongqing-Wanzhou HSR.

The Yuxinou (Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe) International Railway station, linking Chongqing with Duisburg, Germany, ran 770 train voyages with a total cargo of 60,000 containers in 2016.
