Chengdu will host the Fortune Global Forum 2013.

The forum holds tremendous foresight in global urban economic development trends.

It is sponsored by Fortune Magazine, which was taken over by U.S.-based Time Warner in 1995. The forum is held at a “popular” city once every 16-18 months.

Chairmen, presidents and CEOs of multinational corporations, famous government officials and economists have been invited to attend to discuss problems facing the global economy.

Fortune has set up the following standards for selecting host cities: They may not be the most developed areas, but areas that are the most dynamic.

Fortune Forum has earned an outstanding reputation for selecting host cities for their amazing potential.

The forum was held 11 times before,, including six times in Asia, three times in Europe, once in North America and once in Africa.

Asia enjoys a booming economy that is becoming more attractive during the global economic downturn.

China’s role as an economic engine is becoming more obvious.

The forum indicates that the national economy is getting more influential in the world.

Out of 11 cities hosting the forum, eight are capital cities and three are non-capital cities, including Spanish Barcelona, and Shanghai..

All host cities are well-recognized cities. Since Chengdu is located in the hinterlands, its local economy is ranked as a tier two city.

Perhaps Chengdu has reached a crucial moment after years of economic boom times.

The forum pays great attention to timing when selecting a host city.

As revealed by the magazine, Vice President Carrie Ross Welch, the Fortune Forum was held in Shanghai in 1999 when the city was taking off; in Hong Kong in 2001 when people were worried after its return to the mainland in 1997; in Beijing in 2005 when Beijing was preparing to host the Olympic Games in 2008 and in a stage of rapid development.

Forbes Magazine is quoted as saying; “Chengdu would be a city with the fastest development in the world in the next decade.

Chengdu had been a flourishing city when it was the ancient capital of Chang’an and Yangzhou, but it has re-emerged into an even greater city nowadays.

The forum stands as an opportunity and catalyst for a magnificent chapter of the city.
