The 2013 Jinzhou Horticultural Expo is expected to bring some 10 million tourists to China's northernmost seaport between April and October, 2013, Wang Guangming, a city official, told a press conference on Saturday.

The theme of the expo is "the city and the sea, a future in harmony." It will feature a seaside horticultural park that is adapted from saline and alkaline beaches and abandoned shrimp ponds.

Jinzhou, in Liaoning province, is the fourth city on China's mainland to host a horticultural event of this scale. Over the past 13 years, similar expos have been held in Kunming, Shenyang, and Xi'an.

The Expo's park will cover seven square kilometers and will include 20 horticultural works which have been solicited from around the world. Overall planning for the park has been completed and construction is underway.

The park will be divided into six regions. Four of these will feature mountain, forest, island, and seashore landscapes; there will also be a fantasy landscape area and a seaborne activity area.

The Expo will have four landmark buildings: two museums focusing on oceanography and paleoecology, a theater, and a flower-shaped tower. More than 50,000 trees, including 100 species, have been planted in the park.

The event will be jointly supported by the Association of International Horticultural Producers (AIPH) and the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA).
