Tang Hui is the mother of the 19–year-old girl who was kidnapped, raped and forced into prostitution in 2006. Tang had petitioned and appealed for years before she received the final verdict from the local court in June, 2012. Two accused were sentenced to death, four given life imprisonment and one a 15-year term.Tang continued to petition, believing some of those responsible for the incident had not been punished. She was sentenced to 18 months in labor camp by Yongzhou laojiao commission for "disrupting social order". She was released nine days later, but her sentence sparked intense criticism nationwide.
