Xi Xiaoming, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court, is under investigation for seriously violating Party regulations and the law, according to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China. Xi is the highest official in the judicial system to be investigated since the anti-corruption campaign began. His fall has drawn public attention because he is a typical expert official.

Xi Xiaoming received a PhD in Law and has studied aboard for one year. He has written or compiled dozens of books and has published more than 100 articles on legal issues. He has taken charge of national civil and commercial trials for years.

Insiders told the media that Xi is accused of being involved in high-tech and intelligence crimes that are closely related to his educational background and work.

Since the anti-corruption campaign was launched, many expert officials like Xi Xiaoming have been investigated for abuse of power. They have made achievements in their academic or professional fields thanks to their talent, and therefore were promoted to senior governmental positions.
