Innovate or stay behind

We should strive to build an innovative country, says an article in People's Daily. The following is an excerpt:

On June 5, the State Council issued the outline of the national intellectual property rights strategy, indicating that the government is paying more attention to developing independent intellectual property rights. It is a major strategic decision made by the government in the new era of the reform and opening-up and is closely related to the future of our nation.

Intellectual property rights have become a pivotal element in international competition in today's world. They hold a key position in the transformation of our country's economic growth, the reduction in the use of resources, and in upgrading the core competitive edge of the nation.

The implementation of this strategy is also the requirement for building an innovative country. To reach this goal, we need to protect the interests of innovators and creators and help develop independent intellectual property rights.

Despite the great achievement in this regard, China still has a rather inadequate system of intellectual property. We must further improve this system to encourage innovation and creativity and respect the innovative results. Laws should be improved to guard the application of intellectual property.
