(BOCOG)

BEIJING -- IOC President Jacques Rogge is confident that Beijing will ensure the air quality for the 2008 Olympic Games.

He made the remarks to the press during a trip to New York on Thursday.

BOCOG is carrying out the concept of "Green Olympics" by converting plants from coal to gas energy, platting millions of trees, an reduction of the number of cars and taking other measures, he said, adding "We believe that what hey are doing now will yield good results by August next year," he said.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is setting up over 20 test sites around Beijing to measure air quality, according Rogge. He said the data collected overnight will allow officials to make a decision each morning on whether to postpone the outdoor endurance events that would be most affected by pollution, according to an AP report.
