Changzhi city in Shanxi province has been building photovoltaic stations in undeveloped villages and on barren mountains to help locals increase their incomes.
In 2016, Changzhi established 72 village-level PV stations with installed capacity of 30.79 megawatts, benefiting 6,284 local households experiencing financial difficulties. The city will continue to develop village-level PV stations and centralized power stations in 2018 to benefit more than 10,000 poor households.
