Shanxi received 3.62 million visitors and generated 1.86 billion yuan ($286.30 million) in tourism revenue during the New Year's Day holiday from Dec 30 to Jan 1, according to Shanxi provincial tourism development commission.
Among the visitors, 2.43 million were day-trippers and 1.19 million chose overnight journeys. Jaunt travellers tended to self-driving tours, rural leisure tours and suburban journeys. Winter-themed tourism services, primarily the winter health care and ice and snow recreation, were popular among visitors in Shanxi.
Mountain climbing, skiing and cultural festivals have been first choices for many visitors.
