Arrest warrants for ex-Pak president Musharraf

By News Desk (asianewsnet) Updated: 2012-12-19 11:40

A court in Islamabad yesterday issued warrants for former Pakistan president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf's arrest in a case filed for detention of judges.

Civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate Abbas Shah issued the warrants on a request of the station house officer (SHO), Secretariat Police, against the former president for allegedly detaining over 60 judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, following proclamation of the state of emergency in the country on Nov 3, 2007.

A first information report was registered against Musharraf in August 2009 after a sessions court allowed a request of a lawyer, Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Ghumman, seeking legal proceedings against the general.

SHO Qaiser Gillani had asked the court to issue the warrants so that Musharraf was made to face the investigation.

Ghumman told Dawnthat Musharraf would be arrested upon his arrival in Pakistan and if he did not return the police would request the court to issue a proclamation.
