Local representatives from Suzhou’s Tianfu village had their say last Thursday on the lease of a manufacturing development owned by the local government.
The standard workshop buildings, covering 8092 sq m, are intended to be rented to Goodbaby Child Products Co Ltd at 160 yuan per sq m per year.
All 28 villager representatives, who attended the hearing, voted for the deal.
“The hearing provides a platform for us to express our opinions, which is favorable to the communication between villagers and village committees and ensures our right to know, to participate, to choose and to supervise.” said a villager representative.
Cui Kejia, vice secretary of the Suzhou Discipline Inspection Commission, was satisfied with the hearing, saying it was a vivid display of democracy at a grassroots level, which showed off the high capability of the Tianfu village government. He encouraged the village committee to build Tianfu village into a model of a clear and honest government Party.

Other officials from Suzhou Discipline Inspection Commission also observed the hearing along with of Tang Naixin, vice director of the managing committee of Huaqiao economic development zone, and Zhu Geming, vice secretary of Kunshan Discipline Inspection Commission.
According to the agenda, the hearing consisted of six parts, including introduction of attendees, call for discipline, explanation of the cooperation between the Tianfu village and Goodbaby, question time, voting time and announcement of results.
Goodbaby Child Products Co Ltd is the largest company-group specializing in the design, manufacture and retail of children’s products in China. Since the group was established in 1989, their average capital and returns has increased 80 percent per year.
It currently has 532 domestic patents and 15 overseas patents. Their exported products include baby strollers, children’s bicycles, tricycles, walkers, children’s clothes, high chairs, baby diapers, toy and electronic motors, with 10 kinds and more than 1,600 models.
