2001: Chinese player Wang Zhizhi became the first Asian player to play in the NBA. On April 6, Wang became the first Chinese player to score in the league during his team, the Dallas Mavericks', game against the Atlanta Hawks.
On Sept 25, 2001: Michael Jordan announced his return to the NBA to play for the Washington Wizards, indicating his intention to donate his salary to a relief effort for the victims of the Sept 11, 2001 attacks.
