Qingdao, in Shandong province, has set up a Civil Servant Blood Donation Day, the first of its kind in China, to address a shortage of blood, China National Radio reported on Sunday.

Officials said college students and the general public currently make up the majority of donors in Qingdao .

The Qingdao government plans to make the first Tuesday in January, February, July and August asblood donation days for city-level civil servants.
