Shanxi’s tourism promotion in Northwest China came to its first stop on July 6 in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu province, where top tourism authorities of two provinces signed a strategic cooperation agreement.

Led by Feng Jianping, head of Shanxi’s Tourism Bureau, the promotion team comprised representatives from municipal tourism bureaus, major scenic spots and travel agencies.

“Gansu is abundant in tourism resources and has a highly developed tourism industry. It is complementary with Shanxi in tourism development, scenic spot construction and marketing. Today’s promotion conference will strengthen the two provinces’ tourism exchange and cooperation,” said Feng.

Feng’s counterpart in Gansu Tourism Bureau, He Wei, commented that this promotion activity is an opportunity for both provinces to learn from each other.

Feng echoed He’s opinion and said the activity was designed to promote Shanxi’s tourism resources, and also to learn from Gansu’s advanced tourism experience and push cooperation between both provinces’ tourism organs and enterprises.

Eight travel routes, including that surrounding world cultural heritage, ancient religious architecture, and folk customs in Shanxi, were highlighted in the province’s promotion.

Shanxi representatives said that the province’s State-owned A level scenic spots would cut ticket cut by 15 percent for three years, from July 1.

Two travel agencies from Shanxi and Gansu reached a cooperation agreement on exchanging tourists’ resources at the promotion conference.
