A project to protect ancient houses in Huangshan was recognized as a national cultural innovation project, the only one of its kind in Anhui.
Since 2009, Huangshan has spent 6 billion yuan ($977.8 million) protecting 1,065 ancient houses and 101 ancient villages. As of March this year, 4.6 billion yuan has been pumped into the project.
