The resignation of the mayor of Zhuanghe city in Liaoning province was accepted Thursday after he ignored scores of villagers who knelt in front of the government building appealing for an investigation into village officials' corruption, people.com.cn reported.

Sun Ming, the mayor of Zhuanghe, was ordered to resign on April 24 for his mishandling of the April 13 incident by the Dalian government of Liaoning province.
