The Third New York Chinese Film Festival will open on October 17.

China Movie Channel's online subsidiary, M1905.com, together with Jiaflix Enterprises, a nascent LA-based SVOD platform, made the announcement at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

Sid Ganis, the head of Jiaflix, and former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the U.S., the organization that presents the Oscars, said a Chinese-language Oscar Web site will be exclusively on M1905.com. Chinese movie fans can log onto M1905.com for updated news about the Oscars.

At the press conference, M1905 also unveiled an Internet high definition movie player, which is a Netflix-like movie-streaming service.

The player will be promoted abroad, especially in North America where people can use it to watch nearly 10,000 Chinese films.
