Officials face prosecution for negligence leading to mine disaster
( 2003-09-01 16:52) (Xinhua)

Officials allegedly responsible for a coal mine accident in central China's Henan Province that killed 15 miners will face criminal charges.

Investigators said the flood, at Anli Colliery, Long'an District of Anyang City, on May 24, was caused by negligence, and the 17 officials responsible will be disciplined or prosecuted.

Henan Province work safety officials said on Monday that of the 17 people allegedly responsible, including manager Liu Baosheng, eight would be prosecuted.

Zhang Daofeng, a manager with Long'an District Office for Administration of Mineral Resources, was dismissed from the civil service for issuing a license to the Anli Colliery without inspecting the mine. He will face prosecution, and four other government officials have been removed from their civil service posts.

The remaining officials have been given administrative punishment.
