Guangdong leads China in personal income taxes
( 2003-08-15 14:21) (Agencies)

South China's Guangdong Province has maintained its position as the country's leading collector of  personal income taxes, by levying 11.54 billion yuan (some 1.39  billion US dollars) from local wage-earners from January to July  this year.
In July alone, local personal income taxes amounted to 1.64  billion yuan (197 million US dollars), up 30 percent year-on-year, the largest growth rate among all local taxes.

Some 80 percent of the taxes were collected from those working  in Guangzhou, capital of the province, and Shenzhen, an  economically prosperous city and a pioneer in China's ongoing  reform and opening up drive, as well as in cities in the Pearl  River Delta known for its speedy economic development.
