Villagers help folk artist Dai Wanzhi unfold his 21-meter-long painting of Shehuo performances in Daijia village of Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi province, Feb 1, 2015. Dai's painting keeps a good record of Shehuo performances in Daijia village in the 1950s. Most Shehuo performances take place around traditional Chinese festivals, especially at temple fairs during Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival. Shehuo performance of can be traced back to ancient rituals held by the ancestors of the Chinese people to worship the earth, which they believed would bring good harvests and fortune.
