Korean TV apologizes for remarks

China Daily | Updated: 2013-07-10 08:13

A television channel from South Korea has apologized for inappropriate remarks made by an anchorman concerning two Chinese victims of the Asiana plane crash. The apology was issued on Monday through the South Korean embassy in Beijing. During live coverage of the tragedy on Sunday, Yoon Kyeong-min, a news anchor from Channel A, said, "It is fortunate that the two teenage victims in the crash are Chinese instead of South Koreans." Two Chinese teenage girls were killed in Saturday's crash in San Francisco. Another 181 passengers were injured. Channel A apologized for the "wrong and rash comments", saying that such comments were totally inappropriate, neglecting to take into account the feelings of the victims' families and the Chinese people. "The host did not mean to despise the lives of a certain country's citizens," Channel A said in the apology. "We would like to extend our sincere condolences for the victims and apologize to their families and the Chinese people."
