China said yesterday that sanctions are not the solution as the deadline for Iran's answer to the uranium swap deal is approaching.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told reporters that imposing sanctions will not solve the root problem.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters this week that December is "a very real deadline" for Iran to "pursue its responsibilities" on the nuclear issue. Iran has rejected the deadline.
