Wu Yi: China hopes Doha Development Agenda gains balanced result

2003-11-10
Xinhua

China hopes the Doha Development Agenda will gain a balanced result, which will benefit the economic growth of World Trade Organization (WTO) members and China's construction of a well-off society, said Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi here Monday.

During a meeting with Supachai Panitchpakdi, WTO director general, Wu reiterated the stance that China supports the multilateral trade system. She also exchanged views with Supachai Panitchpakdi on the prospect of the Doha Development Agenda since the fifth WTO ministerial conference failed to reach expected goals.

Wu stressed that the new round of talks should fully respect the interests of developing members and the concerns of new members.

Supachai Panitchpakdi said he highly valued China's active and constructive role since its WTO accession two years ago, expressing his appreciation of China's serious attitude in implementing WTO commitments.

Supachai Panitchpakdi is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese Minister of Commerce Lu Fuyuan. He is also attending a forum on WTO and China, which was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing municipal government Monday.
