A deputy to the ongoing second session of the 12th National People's Congress has suggested the country should further facilitate cross-Straits legal and judicial cooperation.

Ma Xinlan, president of the Fujian Provincial High People's Court, said the Chinese mainland and Taiwan still do not coordinate sufficiently in the field of legal affairs as both sides use their own unilateral legislation to deal with general issues.

"It's still common that for some cases that involve Taiwanese, things such as the delivery of legal documents and investigation do not go smoothly," Ma said.

A cross-Straits legal and judicial coordination mechanism should be established and legislation should be stepped up to protect such interests as employment and healthcare for Taiwanese who work or live on the mainland, Ma said.

She said more tribunals that deal exclusively with cases that involve Taiwanese should be set up to safeguard the legitimate interests of Taiwan people and enterprises.
