China's anti-graft body reveals 183 cases

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2014-04-08 16:21

China's top anti-graft agency made public on Tuesday the names of 183 officials who violated Party guidelines on improving work style.

The officials were punished for instances of malpractice that included using government vehicles for private purposes, accepting gifts or money at their children's weddings and personal travel on public funds, said the statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Li Jiuwu, a disciplinary official at Huairou district of Beijing, accepted 156,000 yuan ($25,000) during his daughter's wedding in September. Li received a serious warning from the district's anti-corruption commission as punishment, the statement said.

The CPC Central Committee put forward an "eight-point" guideline in December 2012, requiring government officials to get closer to the public by cleaning up undesirable work styles including formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.

Statistics released by the commission in January said 30,420 officials were punished by disciplinary authorities in 2013 for violating the guideline.
