Madame Tussauds wax museum will open in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, on Sept 28. Zhen Huan, the lead character on a popular television series in China played by actress Sun Li, was the first wax statue made for the museum, and Sun attended the unveiling ceremony recently.

The Wuhan exhibition venue is divided into two parts over an area of about 1,551 square meters, and cost about 80 million yuan ($13 million). There will be 50 waxworks in the museum of famous international and domestic politicians, sport stars, artists, musicians and historical celebrities.

Shirley Zhao, the Madame Tussauds Wuhan marketing manager, said all the waxworks are produced by the British Madame Tussauds and shipped to Wuhan. The other pieces are expected to arrive in Wuhan very soon.

The first Madame Tussauds was opened in London almost 200 years ago. It currently has 14 museums around the world.

Following the opening of museums in London, New York, Amsterdam, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, Madame Tussauds Wuhan will become the 15th such in the world and the second in the mainland of China.
