Beijing police are looking for a man suspected of raping a 7-year-old girl on her way to school, the Beijing News reported on Wednesday.

A source at the Nangao police station in the capital's Chaoyang district said the case is being handled by the criminal investigation department, the report said.

The report added that surveillance cameras around the girl's school could not record the area where the crime happened.

The girl, Duo Duo (not her real name), a first-grade student, is now in hospital. Police said they will wait for her to describe what happened on Dec 24, the report said.

When the girl was sent to the hospital, her private parts were bleeding, the report said.

The girl told police that she saw the suspect around her school many times and remembered that the man was about 20 years old, the report said.
