More than 400 break bones on icy sidewalks

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2012-12-17 21:28

A total of 403 people have been treated for fractures at a Beijing hospital after slipping on icy sidewalks following snowfall at the end of last week, the Legal Mirror reported on Wednesday.

Most of the patients are aged 50 to 70 and the most common injury is broken wrists.

Experts quoted in the report said people can use a rolled-up newspaper or magazine as a makeshift splint to support the wrist if it becomes swollen after a fall, and then seek medical help.
