BEIJING - Wang Qishan, the anti-corruption chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Friday pledged to enhance supervision of cadres to prevent corruption and improve the party's working style.

"Trust can never replace supervision," said Wang, secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), at a seminar held to solicit suggestions from the legal academic circle.

Though considerable progress had been made, the battle against corruption and improper conduct remains a long-term, complicated and tough fight, said Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Wang called on the Party's discipline inspection organizations at various levels to strengthen institutional prevention and punishment of corruption.

The working style of the party is also crucial, the CCDI secretary said, adding that guidance and supervision of the conduct of Party members, especially leading cadres, should be enhanced to make sure that they always put the interests of the people in first place.

Efforts should also be made to implement the policies set at the just-concluded CPC National Congress to maintain a tough position in cracking down on corruption at all times and see that officials are honest, the government is clean, and political integrity is upheld, according to Wang.
