In a survey throughout Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, about 72.7 percent of women believe they have equal social status as men, 13.2 percent above the national average, chinanews.com reported Wednesday.

Chongqing Women's Federation released statistics Wednesday from the survey based on questionnaires for 3,225 women aged 18 and older on women's social status in Chongqing. The survey started from Dec 1, 2010.

The survey shows that 85.8 percent of women between 18 and 64 in Chongqing are married, and 4.7 percent are unmarried. In addition, 85.5 percent of married women are satisfied with their status in the family.

The survey also shows women in Chongqing between 18 and 64 receive 8.32 years of education on average, 0.46 years more than a decade ago, and only four months less than men.

Moreover, 35.2 percent of women in Chongqing aged 18 to 30 are educated at college level or above, 10.8 percent higher than men.
