Heavy rains to continue in South China

BEIJING - Sarika, this year's third tropical storm, weakened to tropical low pressure after landing in south China early Saturday. Heavy rains resulting from the storm will continue, the country's meteorological agency said on Saturday.

The National Meteorological Center said it has canceled its previous typhoon warning as Sarika is expected to lose power further.

High winds are predicted to hit parts of the South China Sea, the Taiwan Strait and coastal areas in South China's Guangdong?province and eastern Fujian province over the next 24 hours, the center said.

Torrential rains are ?expected in parts of Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, according to the center.
